Apple released beta 6 versions of iOS 14.5, iPadOS 14.5, watchOS 7.4, tvOS 14.5, and macOS Big Sur 11.3 this afternoon. The company has taken advantage of this launch to include new details that we had not seen until now and fix some specific devices errors.
New Siri voices and recalibration in the batteries of the iPhone 11
Siri takes the cake in this update: the assistant includes two new voices in English, which significantly improve the understanding and reading of the text that we send it to pronounce. Now, Siri’s voice will no longer be female by default: we will choose the gender we want when configuring the device for the first time. Apple tells us that it is making this change to fulfil its commitment to diversity and inclusion. Today Siri handles more than 25 million questions per month in more than 21 languages and 36 countries, being active on more than 500 devices.
Another exciting detail introduced in these new betas is the correction of an error in the battery indicators of the iPhone 11, which indicated anomalous behavior when in reality, the battery was performing as it should or even showed warnings that the battery needed to be repaired. iOS 14.5 will recalibrate the battery so that the error disappears within about two weeks. If that process fails, Apple will replace your iPhone 11’s battery for free.
We always remind you that these beta versions are intended for developer communities and not for the general user. It is better that you do not install them and be patient until the final and stable version of these systems comes out. Considering that we are already in the sixth beta, it should not be extended.
